Taylor Swift Watches Chiefs Secure Third Victory While Broncos Matchup Garners Historic Audience Surge On ‘Thursday Night Football’

Fresh from gracing the Los Angeles red carpet for her concert film, “The Eras Tour,” Taylor Swift made her way to Missouri last Thursday to show her support for Travis Kelce as the Kansas City Chiefs faced off against the Denver Broncos.

Once again, it appears that the NFL reaped the benefits of her presence at Arrowhead Stadium.

Approximately 13.83 million viewers tuned in to witness another Chiefs triumph on Prime Video, marking a remarkable 57% surge from the comparable Thursday Night Football game last year, which had 8.79 million viewers during the Commanders vs. Bears matchup. The audience reached its pinnacle at 15.51 million viewers around 9:15 p.m. ET, as reported by Amazon.

While Thursday Night Football had been consistently gaining viewers throughout the season, this particular increase stands out as the most substantial year-over-year leap to date. The game now ranks as the third most-watched Thursday Night Football game ever on Prime Video, trailing only two other matchups from this season: 15.06 million viewers for Vikings vs. Eagles and 13.92 million for Giants vs. 49ers.

Perhaps most intriguing is the surge in female viewership for the game, reminiscent of what NBC experienced when broadcasting the Chiefs-Jets game, an event Taylor Swift also attended. The Broncos-Chiefs game saw an average female audience of 4.92 million, which represents a 15% increase compared to the average female viewership in the first four Thursday Night Football games this season.

Female viewers accounted for 36% of the total audience, in contrast to approximately 32% across the preceding four games.

Within the 18-24 demographic, female viewership experienced a substantial 29% increase, with 303,000 viewers, up from 234,000 during the last four TNF telecasts. Meanwhile, in the 12-17 demographic, female viewership saw a 19% increase, reaching 120,000 viewers.

However, it’s not solely due to the “Taylor Swift effect.” Thursday Night Football has consistently witnessed year-over-year viewership growth throughout this season’s games. Prime Video now boasts a five-game average of 13.6 million viewers, a 26% increase over the previous year and 23% higher than in 2021. This season’s five-game average surpasses the previous year’s full-season average by a remarkable 42% in total viewers.

In the highly coveted 18-49 entertainment demographic, the Chiefs-Broncos matchup averaged approximately 6.41 million viewers. According to Amazon, Thursday Night Football’s season-to-date median age is 47, marking an audience seven years younger than those watching NFL games on traditional linear networks.
